AUGMENTIN® is a broad spectrum antibiotic against the most commonly encountered pathogens in general practice, as well as in hospitals.

Clavulanate’s ß-lactamase inhibitory action extended the spectrum of amoxicillin trihydrate to include many strains resistant to other ß-lactam antibiotics.

Bone and joint infections, for example: Osteomyelitis.

Dental infections, for example: dentoalveolar abscess.

Other infections, for example: Intra-abdominal sepsis.

The sensitivity to AUGMENTIN® will show variation with respect to geography and time (for more information see Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics). Sensitivity information should be consulted if available, and where necessary, microbiological sampling and sensitivity testing should be carried out.

Infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to amoxicillin trihydrate are susceptible to treatment with AUGMENTIN® due to its content of amoxicillin trihydrate. Therefore, mixed infections caused by both amoxicillin trihydrate-sensitive microorganisms, together with AUGMENTIN®-sensitive beta-lactamase-producing microorganisms can therefore be treated with AUGMENTIN®.
