Description

Atorvastatin is indicated as a dietary aid for the treatment of patients with elevated triglycerides, apolipoprotein B, LDL-cholesterol and total cholesterol and to increase HDL cholesterol in patients with primary hypercholesterolaemia (heterozygous familial and non-familial hypercholesterolaemia), combined (mixed) hyperlipidaemia. ) (Fredrickson types IIa and IIb), increased serum triglyceride levels (Fredrickson type IV), and for patients with dysbetalipoproteinemia (Fredrickson type III) who do not respond adequately to diet.

Atorvastatin is also indicated for the reduction of total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol in patients with hypercholesterolaemia.

Prevention of cardiovascular complications: In patients without clinically evident cardiovascular disease, and with or without dyslipidemia, but with multiple risk factors for coronary heart disease such as smoking, hypertension, diabetes, low HDL-C, or a family history of coronary heart disease in early stage, atorvastatin is indicated for:

• Reduce the risk of fatal coronary heart disease and non-fatal myocardial infarction.

• Reduce the risk of stroke.

• Reduce the risk of revascularization procedures and angina pectoris.

In patients with obvious coronary heart disease, atorvastatin is indicated for:

• Reduce the risk of non-fatal myocardial infarction.

• Reduce the risk of fatal and non-fatal stroke.

• Reduce the risk of revascularization procedures.

• Reduce the risk of hospitalization for heart failure.

• Reduce the risk of angina.

Pediatric patients (10-17 years of age): Atorvastatin is indicated as a dietary aid to reduce apo B, LDL-C, and total C levels in boys and girls after menarche, 10 to 17 years of age with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia if the following findings are presented after adequate management with dietary therapy:

a) LDL-C remains = 190 mg / dl or

b) LDL-C remains = 160 mg / dl and:

• There is a positive family history of premature cardiovascular disease or

• Two or more CVD risk factors are present in the pediatric patient.
