The diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD: DSM-IV) implies the presence of hyperactive – impulsive or inattentive symptoms that cause dysfunction and can present before 7 years of age. Symptoms cause clinically significant dysfunction in social, academic, or occupational settings, and can be present in two or more settings such as school (or work) and home. The symptoms should not be included in any other mental disorder. In the case of inattention, at least 6 of the following symptoms must have persistently presented in at least 6 months: Errors due to inattention to detail, sustained inattention, poor listening, not following the instructions of a homework, poor organization, avoiding tasks that require sustained mental effort, losing things, being easily distracted, being forgetful.
