Description
DIMEFOR-G® is indicated as initial treatment – together with diet and exercise – in patients with type II diabetes in whom hyperglycemia cannot be adequately controlled with food restriction and physical activity alone.
It is also indicated in those patients who have not responded satisfactorily to metformin or glibenclamide monotherapy.
It has an antihyperglycemic effect by acting at the extrapancreatic level, increasing insulin sensitivity in liver tissue and peripheral tissues. In the liver, it reduces basal glucose production by decreasing glycogenolysis (breakdown of glycogen to glucose) and gluconeogenesis (synthesis of glucose). In peripheral tissues, especially at the muscle level, it increases tissue uptake and use of glucose. It also slows down the intestinal absorption of glucose.
